The Irrational Guard

Met someone today whose resume included the point that he has been a Colonel in the National Guard for twenty years. And yes he was from the land o cotton. Not, unfortunately Kentucky.

This strikes me as sad. As though he were striking a pose in his faded blue shirt with a limp, over laundered patch announcing “Security: Wal-Mart” —

Of course and odder story is that a professor at San Jose State still notes on his vitae that he served in a tank battalion circa ’75. Oh yes, the mighty tank wars of the seventies… that’s what contributed so much to his value as an economics professor in wanting.
