A car crashes in Glasgow. The world pauses. The car burns. Its driver is burned badly.
In its simple form this scene is not a matter for world wide notice. Not a subject that should bring out the bomb dogs. Put an extra thousand policemen in the New York Subways. But it does.
Why?
The taxi driver was in a hurry that day. Unfortunately, even though he had scheduled a doctors appointment, he had a heart attack. His fare was in a hurry to get to his plane. Aren’t they all? The heart attack. The crash. The fire. The tragedy. Just one path for the same events.
However, that isn’t what happened. The happen was the same. What was different was the intent of the driver. He wanted to kill, to terrorize. We let him.
Terror isn’t his choice. It is our reaction. What we do as response. What we tell each other. How we behave to each other. That is terror. Our action after the event. If it were the event, then we would live in terror of every shadow.
What brings us to such accented fear? Faith does. Wrong faith. Faith in the wrong things. Faith without knowledge is the ladder to ignorance. Not their faith. Your faith is what is wrong. Along with theirs. Faith is what you both share. Faith and fear are your mother’s milk re-union.
Your need for revelations, your reliance on faith in (G)od. The need to explain little things, but the unwillingness to study them, means you must have faith. The less you understand, the more faith you must have.
Quiz time:
- Faith or fear.
- Faith with fear.
- Neither Faith nor Fear.
Black swans fly. White swans cast shadows. Only a fool will fear either. Only the pious idiot will pray to them.
