Your supporters can drag you into the ditch without your knowing or their caring. Prisoner McCain did a very good thing this week by asking his party to party less, to “Put Country First.” I believe that was, to him, more than a great bumper sticker. Unfortunately TV crews too quickly found McCain’s ardent supporters, not just partying, but making such parting on camera comments about the coming storm as:

This is the elite, drunk with power. Even though the statement is true, it is truth with contempt. He would have been as truthful, perhaps more honest to his heart if he had said: “I’ve got mine, let them get theirs.”
