Secret report shows… Not much secret, people who spend time in prison become criminalized. People who spend time in gyms build muscles… people who spend time in …. Almost like making cookies, these phrases take shape too easily to have much meaning. How about this set of concepts. Gitmo prisoners have approximately a 20% rate of recidivism. Compare that with this graphic showing the US rate of recidivism:
Notice that violent criminals return to crime at over 60% rate, even under the Reagan “law and order” series.
Looks to me that this 20% rate of renewed enemy activity is closer to a re-enlistment rate for combat units in the Marines. Hell, it seems that the enemy is less likely to return to action than any US criminal will return to crime. I hope it doesn’t mean that Gitmo cures terrorism, but maybe, just maybe. More likely though is that the bulk of those picked up were part time soldiers, reservists that once they’ve carried a body bag aren’t likely to sing the glory songs of enlistees again.
