About a month ago I passed the table at which two of the valley elite were having an AM meeting. Oddly, they had picked a table near the front door. As I passed I overheard the Smartest Guy saying “we have at least six new ways to monitize our platform.” This means that he has more ways to make money from his socializing website.

I didn’t stop to ask why he needed this VC to pitch in some money, after all aren’t you already able to generate the money from your platform? Of course the big secret that neither of them speaks aloud, but certainly know, is that the best way to monitize an idea is to get the VC to spend his fund money. In this way they each get to spend some pension fund money on gossip and lattes.
