Is a picture any words?
The hackneyed ” a picture is worth a thousand words,” means that the image doesn’t need words.
If you approach the picture as representing something, and not wholly contained, then you will search its meaning,i.e., you will search for the words, thinking that it is a story being told.
This is the story you tell yourself, yet it means you are less likely to understand more than the nouns.
You will miss its point, and therefore the underlying response. To some, there is only the subject, that first step of meaning.
What brings this out: ideas intersecting
— do images have power
— is the artist responsible for the blow-back (yep, they have power)
— do images defuse?
When you see a picture of a hamburger (any favorite food), does it satisfy your hunger?
If you answered “yes” please don’t tell anyone.
When you see erotica/porn, are you stimulated, or released?
And there is blowback. Images instruct, construct, and destruct the world without words; dreams.
