When words collide, worlds have changed. The words “jive” and “jibe” sound so much alike that they have exchanged meaning. Perhaps losing their meaning in the collision. See this quote from a discussion list:
uses 30% red, 59% green and 11% blue, which jives with
the 30/60/10 number.
The author probably means that these correspond, or align sufficiently with each other to provide the same result. Maybe not since the original meanings of these were that “jive talk” meant false or fake or not to be trusted as truth, while to jibe was to align or connect, to mean that this is a good fit, meaning true. I don’t know what the author intended. Another problem with having too much vocabulary for too many years to be able to speak english in internet america. Too bad that jibe is now just more jive.
