If you make a claim of position only for the purpose of altering someone else’s stance, you have no position.

It is common in a business negotiation that someone will make a statement that leads to price. A price for something big, such as their business. If they have a price, you don’t have need to bargain with them. They are not in the market to win, they are in the market to leave. In other words, they are not going to hold this territory. They have it, only to sell it. This means it can be taken from them; for much less than they are pricing it at.
