Why are you surprised that as thousands of armed and armored soldiers leave an area, death counts fall.
Civilians are always killed in combat zones. No matter how much you may dream that these are heros battling in a stadium for your benefit, that just ain’t the way war works. That isn’t how fear factors in these equations.
