Try This On

When someone says to you that not raising taxes is a great thing…

I don’t agree. Why should we allow the jet set to continue running up our debt? Why should we finance their third villa in Italy? Why should we give them tax credits to layoff our neighbors? Why should the jet clubbers clobber our nation? Why should we protect their resorts while they mortgage our houses?

This Time

This time the debt is theirs. They weren’t taxed, yet they did spend. Begin with a surplus, end with a depression. Thanks G & Friends.

Another Difference Hidden By Phrasing

As The Con Would Say

It is time to cut spending….That is the way you are meant to think of government, those are the words you are supposed to use today. The way business and those beholden to the corporation want you to think, because that is the only way they think. A check written is a check wasted. Of course the better businessmen know that not all checks are consigned to the cost heap of history, it is instead spent in investment.
But politicians, particularly those that say they are businessmen are low skill businessmen — by definition, by evidence of their preference for public power.

Another Way

Government spends money to produce additional assets for the common ground, for the foundation of the future. We use electricity, roads, water supplies that were built by past “big spenders” and thanks to them we don’t have to constantly pull ourselves up from the oil pond in search of food. But they are dead now. And now, we are conditioned to think that the combined mind of us is no more than a check writing shop girl in Tucson without any possible retirement.
That leaves us poorer, not in the ways of green paper, but in the ways of rich thought, in the ways of what once were golden dreams. Not the iron pyrite of our Comentatorate, those Foxtards, those players of bachmann’s overdrive, not that, not them. We live on, living on last century’s investments in us. What we aren’t prepared to do is to invest anything in a future, so we won’t have one; worse, neither will our successors.
