Richard Berger, dead:

I wouldn’t have graduated from SFAI without him. He cared & understood.

In 73, after the photography department failed me, he suggested I switch to sculpture, where, he assured me, I’d be understood.

Artists weren’t meant to be confined by their art.

Drawing Upon

Drawing is the first writing
Drawing is the discovery of symbols
It takes at least 2 generations for a technology to become creative; compatible with the visual mind
Technology of drawing changes, yet drawing grows stronger, is able to adapt faster than the needs of other art forms
Art requires technology take a human form, become compatible, first with the artist, then the other.
The paper is never empty, the canvas never blank
Drawing is evolving into purely mental activity.
