The Gentle Hum From Upstairs

From overhead a far off sound. Small, distant, yet patterned. It cycles. Going faint, then becoming intense. The sound is made by my second wife, yet it recalls sounds from wife number Uno. The difference is not only the difference of years. It is the difference of times themselves. The whir of motors used by Uno was a sewing machine. My best wife, my now wife is shredding junk mail.
