The hear space of the forming brain at age 0->5 settles on the sounds that have meaning from those that may or should be ignored. Listen to Mom and Dad, actually, watch them listen. The trickles of impulses, with enough repetition, form the path of attention. These paths later allow us to hold ideas for longer or shorter durations. What interests us, and what we may ignore are settling in for a “long winters nap.”
I notice that the elders can’t tolerate the abrupt, the sudden and explosively loud situations that are common within our community spaces. Cars and their “pimpers” ( the first to wear pampers, weren’t they) luv dey tikets foh noize, fum da po’lees. (Note: best said with fingers at acute angles as though you suffer from arthritis and rickets.) Nor do they stand up well to our THX sound system within our theaters for the deaf.
