Epson Velvet Fine Art

Velvet Fine Art is a highly regarded paper according to much net chatter. I bought some, thinking that an ICC profile must be available for a Canon Pro9500 printer. The Epson site doesn’t have one. The ICC profiles they publish are for the Epson printers. Several googles haven’t located a profile, but I did download and tried the Epson profiles. Whoa they are off! Should have expected that. Even though adjustment layers can accommodate some of the error, it doesn’t seem reliable nor useful.

Worth It?

This paper has a good white, nice touch in the hand, but it isn’t good enough to expend the effort to “balance” for a Canon printer. Other papers are widely available and their manufacturers provide ICC profiles. Even though I would have dumped this printer after a very bad first times with it, after using Epson at workshops, I have put my head down and learned the fussy parts of digital printing. Of the the three brands, Canon, Epson, HP, each fails. This means that you cannot push this or that way to perfection. It also means that you will always have to adapt your goal. Modify it, sadly, downward. The print is the final step, but it is not easy, nor anywhere near complete enough.
