The nude, arrested, or so it seems.

As we flip through the posted poses on the model sites we see a pattern recurring. The arms arranged as though the model is under arrest. Up or wide out. This without any other meaning.

In politeness, perhaps they are symbolic crucifixion. References to the salvation by the cross. This may be the way of making the naked sacred. I think the most likely meaning is “show us.” Perhaps joy, glee or such, but more likely the model and the photographer had nothing else to do. No other thoughts. It beats calisthenics.

These arm signals are often accompanied with the “search position” stance. Legs at shoulder width, ready to show that they are hiding nothing. Or are they saying they aren’t afraid of what you will see?

Most nudes on the model sites have simple goals. Most nudity on the net has a commercial purpose, often softly stated, but ultimately prurient. This is not bad, meaning evil, it is just too simple to sustain a specific interest, an interest that invites another look with increased understanding.

Of course the majority of the photographers have grown up with a type of image and are replaying it from MTV. The models too come into the frame from the world of young adventure. Dare, risk, maybe fame, but at any rate fun and adventure. The camera is at porn height. The height convenient in a one camera shoot to showup action on the bed. Not too bad, it even lengthens the leg of the actors.

I am writing this because of two occurrences, two interactions with the main model sites. Sometime later, no doubt I will return to this. Until later.
