Having just collected several hundred “proposals” from international newspapers for solutions to the world crisis, I am realizing that there are more options, more choice avenues sketched in other countries than in the US. Considering why, I realized that the Democrats of today, though in full political power, are not able to act. They are not the Democrats of old. A Johnson, or Kennedy wouldn’t recognize them. Maybe wouldn’t even think that the US had a Democrat as President, as Speaker of the House and as Senate Majority Leader.

On the other hand, the Republicans seem very Republican. Some of their rhetoric is much cleverer, having taken on much of the democrats’ ’60 reasoned smithing. But if Goldwater or Reagan were alive and in full health, they would recognize the Republicans, though I doubt they would recognize the Democrats of today any more than I do.
