future film

consider the movie’s future — motion picture film cameras aren’t being made. The new cameras are digital, such as RED. Less than 3% of projection is film — US.
Film will go away, becoming something that no director will be able to use. What will happen to movie making.
ans: NOTHING.

George Lucas has already given up sockets for packets. He loves, in fact funded, the push for digital film making.
What about Woody (Heywood) Allen? He will give up nothing. His movies are driven by actors, not by technology. The chemistry he needs for his movies is between actors and director — that will remain. Maybe even expand, renew… maybe those extra millions saved will buy additional scenes, actors, locations, imagery.
I hope.

color printing: balance

another caution regarding forum advice.
a question arose– wondering what adjustment to make to remove color from borders!
a dozen experts later, no one has told him that the border should be base emulsion color… close to white for most color emulsions, or to black for reversal emulsion.
a color tone is fog… don’t balance for fog… change process method.

fog:
emulsion age. darkroom unsafe(light). chemical contamination. chemical activity.. mix, or temperature error.

stop futzing with balance until you’re in control of those other factors.
