Mort Sahl used to ask his audience: “Is there someone I haven’t offended?” He attacked presidents and their groupies. Taking a shot at the powerful seems kinder but so much safer. As politics has become so correctable, we have had to take on other issues to bring offense to the stage. Standup wasn’t about “insult” but about “offense”.
It seems so much easier to recover back in the age when we all had power.

There are no sidelines in war. Sidelines are for the games we play. A place for spectators to cheer and wave. Hooray for my side.
