My take: the only people I pay up front are beggars, and the homeless. They need the money now, and are unlikely to be here again.
Beggars and vagabonds are paid cash up front. All others are expected to provide an invoice.
When you can turn that into this, you turn yourself from taking to making. Take pictures, or make art. Image, or imagine.
That stuff, that space, has to be translated into this thing, this surface.
