Does the answer matter as much as winning, dominating among, what are essentially bullies in boast mode. Aging forums traverse a standard decay. It takes very little to cause the inmates to stomp and shout. So, what happened?

Enlargers are elegant solutions to a simple need. Make this bigger. Make a projection. A light and a lens is all that’s needed.

Mechanical engineering improved over several decades to hold and position the film to be enlarged. How to do this cheaply yet durably. Divide the market into the casual and the commercial. From the 50s onward safety standards matured, so did manufacturing experience and supporting industry with more and more solutions.

The hobbiest’s casual darkroom is likely a converted space, perhaps a shared space. The car, the bar, the enlarger, that spare freezer, all stuck away. And subject to accidents. Water makes a great conductor.

pigment diameters: a pigment isn’t a colorant of a fixed size. It doesn’t have to “fail to fit thru those tiny nozzles” in a jet printer to be a pigment. That test is a failure to thrive in a learning world.

Structural pigments don’t have color.

A dye is a colorant which is molecularly dispersed or solvated by a carrier. The carrier can be a liquid or a solid at room temperature. A commonly used carrier is water or a mixture of water and organic co-solvents. Each individual dye molecule is surrounded by molecules of the carrier. In dye-based inks, no particles are observable under the microscope.

They alter appearance by selective absorption and/or by scattering of light. Pigments are usually dispersed in vehicles or substrates for application, as for instance in the manufacture or inks, paints, plastics or other polymeric materials. not a crossover. most of the green horns would think it was. this gif was made from two separate, seemingly balanced prints. at least the grey steps were correct.

The problem with pigment, carbon printers’ results are: Undercolor. undercolor — CMY have degraded, overlapped out of balance. UCR mask reduces these colors so that the K will be image content. Exposure controls amount removed. Soup the mask to a contrast that reduces in the shadow of the separation negatives.

information on many stages of the photolab are best found by asking the internet. You may not have a full library, nor have ready access to someone from last century. All the major manufacturers wrote guides, pamphlets, even books to provide you full reliable, useable information about their products. There were also the standard 3rd party references: British Journal of Photography, Photo-Lab Index.

As an example of google search phrase: “kodak darkroom safelight” — along with simple modification to make: “ilford darkroom safelight.”

This took less than three minutes to find and download. Much less time than going to an internet chat-forum to ask what the safelight for MYPRDODUCT would be.
